Frequently Asked Questions
How long will I have to wait for my documents?
Our trailer and liability insurance schemes both have an online buy now facilities and documents are emailed to you in a PDF document the same day you arrange insurance. Alternatively, you can call our office on 0845 8387 110 and we can set up your policy over the phone.
All our policies also come with a document for you to pass to event organsiers, again this will be emailed as soon as your purchase the insurance.
What security do I need?
For trailers we would recommend you fit at least a Hitch Lock & Wheel Clamp, our insurance company will insist on these items for theft cover to be granted, Trailers over £15,000 will also require a permanent marking security system such as DataTag and a Tracking System for values in excess of £25,000.
When does my trailer become permanently sited?
When you leave the trailer in one place for 14 days or more and you do not tow it or move it to a different location. To ensure your permanently sited trailer against theft we would ask you remove the wheels & hitch.
Do I need permission to sell food & drink?
You will need to register your business with your local environmental office and they will guide you through anything else they require.
What is public liability insurance?
Liability insurance covers the risk that a member of the public or another company will make a claim against you or your company. This means that should a successful claim be made against you or your company, your insurance will cover the cost up to the limit of your cover.
Although not a legal requirement for caterers, most councils and local environment heath departments request a minimum of £5 Million cover when granting licences to trade.
What is product liability?
Product liability insurance protects you from claims made due to damage to your property or personal injury as a result of your product. It is highly recommended because for catering companies, it covers you against claims for food poisoning, bad or incorrect labelling of food and ingredients and contaminated food. At Cater N Sure, we make sure that you are aware of product liability insurance and include cover for up to £5 Million pounds.
What is employer liability?
Employer liability insurance protects you against the cost of compensation and legal costs for injuries or sickness of employees at work or caused as a result of your business or equipment. This is a requirement for any company employing staff and you will need a certificate of insurance for health and safety inspections. Failure to provide a valid and current certificate of insurance can result in a fine or closure of your business.
Is Liability Insurance Compulsory?
Public liability insurance is not compulsory, however your local environmental office will normally ask you to supply proof of insurance, as will event organisers. With the introduction of “no win – no fee” companies we would strongly recommend you obtain this valuable cover. Please note if you employee staff then employers liability is a legal requirement.
Will I have to fill in any forms?
You will be pleased to know that the answer is No, the information you supply for the quotation will form your policy cover and a statement of fact will be sent to you outlining what you have requested.
